Borderland is a principal product house: the principals do the work, establish factory transparency, and stay accountable end to end. When one team owns the outcome, the product is what you specified with a predictable cost and timeline.
One program, evaluated before it starts, built through six stages. The stages overlap - supply chain work runs alongside development, and growth planning never really stops. The gates are what keep the overlap from becoming chaos: each one confirms a decision, so the work depending on it can move forward. Process with front-loaded accuracy, so problems surface while they're still affordable to fix.
Before anything starts, we find out whether we're right for each other. You tell us what you're making, what it needs to cost and when it needs to exist. We tell you whether we're the right people to build it. This stage isn't billed. It's how both sides decide there's something worth doing.
We work together to determine what the product has to be, and what the business needs it to do. Targets for retail price, margin, landed cost, volume, launch date are created. Key questions behind the targets are explored: what kind of brand this is, how the range evolves, what cadence the cash flow can carry, whether you're growing steadily or making a bigger bet. Product decisions made without those answers often get made twice.
The Tier 1 factory comes first, vetted on capability and capacity, and aligned to the labs and testing facilities your category requires. Then the rest of the supply chain gets built around it: materials, components, tooling vendors, labs, packaging, and the country and duty strategy that decides where any of it makes sense.
Prototypes, fit and functional samples, confirmation samples, size runs, sales and marketing samples, TOP. Test sessions, material approvals, colorway sign-offs. Fit and performance evaluation is a process that runs across sample rounds, with wear testing and adjustments to pattern, construction and material. Tooling is verified against blueprints, 3D models and milled, molded or printed prototypes before anything is opened. Bulk production doesn't start until the product is approved by the brand.
The production run, tracked by style, color and size. We integrate with the factory's own QC and raise it to your standard rather than working around it, then layer independent inspectors and labs on top. The final accept-or-reject decision on your inventory is always independent third party, never the factory grading its own work. We hand off at ex-factory; freight, duties and landed cost stay with you and your 3PL, where they cost less.
The first run is often the most expensive one you'll make. After it, tooling amortizes, defect rates come down as we tune materials run over run, and terms improve as the factory gets consistency it can plan around. This is where next season gets developed, existing SKUs get sharpened against customer feedback, and the cash flow model and vendor contracts get rewritten to match a business that's become predictable. Adjusting for growth is ongoing - we revisit the plan as often as the business needs.
Your product is only as good as the factories that make it. We engineer a purpose-built supply chain that evolves with your business.
Explore Manufacturing ServicesOur network makes product for names you'd recognize. Factories that will engineer alongside you, run materials a small buyer can't get a mill to make, and build tooling for constructions that don't exist off the shelf. What a small brand can't normally get isn't access to those factories. It's a reason for them to say yes.
Most manufacturers place you into the factories they already work with, so what you can make is capped by what those factories happen to do. We build outward from the product - assembly, materials, components, tooling, testing - pushing partners we know past their defaults, or bringing in new ones when a capability calls for it.
Growth breaks supply chains - volume jump the current factory can't absorb, a new construction it can't handle, a category that needs a different line entirely. We plan for that: adding vendors, moving production, qualifying new factories ahead of the need. What stays constant is us, and everything we already know about your product.
Footwear, apparel, bags and accessories - the categories that tend to live under one brand. Whichever you start with, the next one doesn't mean finding a new partner.
Our deepest experience is in Footwear - two decades of it, athletic through dress, including constructions most developers won't take on. It's also the most complex product in soft goods to make well, which is why the standard carries into everything else. The rest we build through a growing network of talent and facilities.
